Senior citizens with a history of migration and their relatives receive information on care, ageing and participation. Actors and organizations in the field can find information on diversity-sensitive care and events.

Appointment to the Berlin State Seniors' Advisory Council

On January 21, 2026, Senator for Labour, Social Affairs, Equality, Integration, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) appointed the Migration, Care and Ageing Office (FaMiPA) to the Berlin Seniors’ Advisory Council (LSBB). The FaMiPA advisors, Simone Koschewa and Amrit Walia, accepted the appointment in person from the Senator at the LSBB plenary session at Sozialwerk Berlin e.V. This is an important step for the specialist unit in advancing the vision of equal political participation for senior citizens with a history of migration in Berlin.

FaMiPA stands for Fachstelle Migration, Pflege und Alter. The aim of the specialist unit is to make the needs and concerns of senior citizens with a history of migration in Berlin visible, to structurally reduce discrimination and to promote their equal participation in the elderly assistance and care system.

What does FaMiPA do?

The Migration, Care and Ageing Unit (FaMiPA) is committed to the needs, rights and participation of senior citizens with a history of migration. It works in an intersectional, anti-discriminatory and participatory manner. On its website, FaMiPA bundles multilingual information for senior citizens with a history of migration, their relatives and stakeholders and organizations working in the field of migration, ageing and care. FaMiPA connects stakeholders, strengthens self-efficacy and acts as a bridge between practice, science and politics.

Does FaMiPA provide advice?

No, FaMiPA does not provide advice. We do not provide advice on care services, care levels and your entitlements. However, we do provide referral advice. This means that we will refer you to other suitable contact points in Berlin. You can find a list of contact points and information on our website.

No, FaMiPA offers and events are free of charge.

FaMiPA has been funded by the Senate Department for Science, Health and Care since 2025. The specialist center is a project of the AWO Landesverband Berlin e.V. and works throughout Berlin and across associations.

FaMiPA has been in existence since summer 2025 and the three of us work together: Amrit Walia and Simone Koschewa are the advisors at the specialist unit. Hanna Kerkhof coordinates the specialist unit.
