FaMiPA stands for the Center for Migration, Care, and Aging. What does FaMiPA do?
The Center for Migration, Care, and Aging (FaMiPA) advocates for the needs, rights, and participation of older adults with a migration background. It takes an intersectional, anti-discriminatory, and participatory approach. On its website, FaMiPA provides multilingual information for older adults with a migration background, their families and loved ones, as well as stakeholders and organizations active in the fields of migration, aging, and care. FaMiPA connects stakeholders, fosters self-efficacy, and serves as a bridge between practice, academia, and policy.

Does FaMiPA offer counseling?
No, FaMiPA does not provide counseling. This means we do not offer advice on long-term care services, care levels, or your entitlements. However, we do provide referral services. This means that we refer you to other appropriate resources in Berlin based on your specific needs. You can find a list of these resources and related information on our website.
Even though we aren’t a traditional counseling center, we’re always here to listen. If you have any questions about FaMiPA’s work, please feel free to contact us at famipa@awoberlin.de or call us at +49 30 / 25 389 287. You can usually reach us Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

No, FaMiPA’s programs and events are free of charge.
How is FaMiPA funded?
FaMiPA has been funded by the Senate Department for Science, Health, and Care since 2025. The center is a project of the AWO Landesverband Berlin e.V. and operates throughout Berlin across various organizations.
How long has FaMiPA been around, and who works there?
FaMiPA has been in existence since the summer of 2025. There are three of us on the team: Amrit Walia and Simone Koschewa are the program coordinators, and Hanna Kerkhof serves as the center’s coordinator.
