We are starting our series “FaMiPA informs…” with a first important topic: Severe disability – application made easy .

Wednesday, September 23, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

A disability ID card can make daily life easier for seniors
with a background of migration and provide access to important support services.
But how does the application process work?
What should you keep in mind, and
what documents are required?

In this session, Franziska Müller from the Specialist Office for Migration and Disability (FaMiBe) will explain the application process step by step, provide practical advice, and answer questions.
Thanks to her many years of professional expertise, she clearly explains what is essential for a successful application.

The two specialized units—Migration, Care, and Aging (FaMiPA) and Migration & Disability (FaMiBe)—invite you to attend a training session:

Aging Well—Maintaining Independence for as Long as Possible — Berlin Home Visits present their work.

Tuesday, October 6, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Berlin Home Visit Program helps older adults live independently and on their own terms for as long as possible.
At this event, they will present their free information and guidance services and demonstrate how early planning can help maintain independence in old age, shape this new phase of life, and prevent the need for long-term care.

You’ll also receive practical tips and information about support services available in Berlin.

In this workshop, professionals and thought leaders will gain a clear overview of the legal framework, responsibilities, and entitlements to benefits.
Using real-life examples, the presentation addresses typical issues and provides guidance on advising people with a migration background.
Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for questions and professional discussion.

Thursday, November 26, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A visit from the Medical Service is an important step in the process of determining your long-term care level and often raises many questions.
The Berlin-Brandenburg Medical Service provides information on how a long-term care assessment works, what you need to prepare for and how to do so, and what support options are available.

Following the presentation by the Medical Service, the “Brückenbauer*innen” will present their work and the support options available in the context of care assessments and will be available to answer questions.
The “Brückenbauer*innen” use their linguistic and transcultural expertise to help people in need of care who have backgrounds as migrants or refugees, as well as their relatives and loved ones, access the long-term care and support system.
